Nossa participação estava em discussão meses atrás, mas as conversas subitamente silenciaram e a ideia morreu, sem ninguém explicar por quê. Fiz um post no grupo do Facebook questionando, teve umas curtidas, mas nenhum comentário, nem no próprio post, nem na discussão. Coloquei {{Arquivo histórico}} na discussão pra ninguém se iludir. Ano passado eu corri atrás e consegui entradas e slots gratuitos para atividades Wikimedia, porém, depois de tantas críticas e pedradas ao longo do ano, deixei isso de lado e não me envolvi. Estou indo este ano como palestrante convidado da Campus Party no Palco Venus, onde apresentarei uma palestra sobe o WLE e contribuições através de concursos fotográficos. Como ninguém me pediu ajuda ou comentou a respeito em tempo hábil, não me mexi pra conseguir nada pra vcs. É uma pena, talvez até o proximo ano a comunidade se organize de outras formas e através de outras pessoas mais engajadas e responsivas para ter uma melhor representatividade no evento e em outros lugares. Talvez eu consiga ir como jornalista, pois convidaram um jornal no qual escrevo, aí posso fazer uma cobertura da palestra e postar um relato depois, com foto e tudo. Adequação do wiki

O Wikimedia Community User Group Brasil não existe mais a cerca de um mês, já que seu reconhecimento junto à Wikimedia Foundation expirou em 31 de dezembro último e não há qualquer comunicação pública referente ao pedido de renovação de reconhecimento.

O consenso atingido no pedido de fechamento deste wiki foi o de que, como haviam voluntários formalmente organizados no Brasil para promover os projetos Wikimedia, a justificativa não se sustentava. Portanto, ajustes precisam ser feitos:

• Esvaziar a MediaWiki:Tagline;
• Remover/substituir o logotipo do wiki (por qual?);
• Remover a flag de burocrata do Jonas AGX e do Vini 175, que foi concedida a partir do fato de ambos serem as pessoas de contato da WMF quanto ao grupo de usuários agora expirado.

Aproveito para lamentar que o evento Futuro da Wikimedia no Brasil pareça não ter sido capaz de render frutos concretos.

Deixar este wiki aberto a edições pode servir ou para o Wikimedia Community User Group Brasil se reavivar, ou para o surgimento de novas associações formais de voluntários brasileiros. Se nenhum dos caminhos se concretizar, infelizmente o destino será fechar as edições, mantendo acessível o longo arquivo histórico de tentativas fracassadas dos brasileiros deixarem de ser meros indivíduos que participam de uma plataforma online. A mensagem do MediaWiki:Tagline e as flags de burocrata foram removidas, as de administrador foram mantidas uma vez que houve o pedido para execução de tarefas na wiki. As de burocrata representam que os mesmos são contatos oficiais do user group, uma vez que o user group expirou ambos deixam de ser representantes até um novo pedido e renovação por parte da WMF. Quanto ao logo, sinceramente não sei por qual substituir, uma vez que até o puzzle é um representativo do grupo de usuários, se alguém ter alguma idea quanto isso, agradeço. ---- @lestaty ^discuţie 19h55min de 30 de janeiro de 2015 (UTC)

Achei meio precipitado. Eu teria perguntado e, especialmente, informado os usuários sobre a remoção. Não se remove algo assim às escuras e sem discussão, com alteração de permissão sete minutos depois do pedido, digno de um pedido urgente muito bem sincronizado. Na verdade, vi no primeiro dia... mas manter ou não um mero estatuto de burocrata é irrisório e fiquei na dúvida se valeria a pena haja vista a quantidade de outras atividades de fato importantes a serem cumpridas. A recíproca de não querer dramas, e de estar ocupado em atividades que rendem resultados, é verdadeira. De todo modo, se alguém voltar a se interessar em atividades de outreach enquanto este wiki ainda estiver ativo, as coisas são fáceis de serem alteradas. Vejo isso tudo acontecendo e acho é graça. Por tentar fazer as coisas e ajudar o movimento à minha maneira fui acusado, massacrado e detonado de todas as formas. E aí pessoal. Qual é o babado ? O Rodrigo Argenton (ou alguém muito parecido com ele e mais magro) se sentou na platéia da palestra do Padula lá no Campus Party, ficou em silêncio e assim que ela terminou, ele rapidamente se levantou e foi embora. Ele estava sentado como uma estátua numa cadeira junto ao corredor central. Gosto deste ambiente amigável e colaborativo. A dona lá do Catalizador também tinha se sentido magoada com algumas das patadas que levou, mas não sei de quem. Depois falam de mim... Hum... eu acho que ela pensou que eu era um outro editor, aquele metido a ficar fazendo fru-fru no IRC, mas só percebi isso quando cheguei em casa e pensei um pouco (sim isso pode acontecer). Esta página está com as fontes pequenas demais e em cinza. Melhor aumentar a fonte e colocar em preto. (ou isso se faz nas configurações?) Alguém precisa de carona aqui em SP para ações do antes chamado grupo de usuários ? Já fiz manutenções em meus dois autos e eles já operam em dobra nove. Acho que depois disto, esta alteração já não faz mais sentido e reforça o meu comentário anterior. Não vejo outra alternativa se não desfazer as alterações, já que tudo se baseava num possível encerramento do grupo, que foir renovado. Uma vez que a autorização se encerrou o grupo também se encerrou, portanto seu comentário não tem reforço nenhum. E uma vez que não vejo nome algum no link que apresentou e muito menos houve nenhuma resposta para as inúmeras questões que foram levantadas na lista de email, seria erh como posso dizer "precipitado" da minha parte atribuir estatutos tão irrisórios para pessoas que nem mesmo sei se foram as próprias a pedir a renovação. Portanto, se alguém precisa pedir os estatutos essas pessoas são as que assinaram ou as mesmas devem (pra não dizer, que tem obrigação) informar formalmente o grupo quem fez a solicitação. Minha ultima resposta, uma vez que já disse tudo o que tinha a dizer acima. Os links que me passou não informam quem renovou, não posso atribuir flag alguma baseado em algo que vc está me dizendo. Aponte um link onde esteja escrito os nomes de quem foi o responsável pela renovação e eu terei o maior prazer em atribuir a flag, sem isso, sem flag. O grupo foi renovado, mas quem assinou? E se eu atribuo a flag ao Vini e foi sei lá a Maria quem assinou? Sinto muito, sem precipitações. Óbvio que são os mesmos, pois nada foi alterado nesse sentido. O grupo foi renovado e não importa se você não gosta disso. Seja pelo menos um pouco profissional e deixe as questões pessoais de lado.
Toda a discussão acima se baseia numa falsa ideia de que o grupo acabou quando não houve nada nesse sentido. Ação essa que foi a única precipitada até o momento. Se não acabou, a vergonha seria menor se tivesse reposto de imediato, reconhecendo o erro em vez de inventar essa regra de que você deve ser abordado pra qualquer coisa quando nem do grupo faz parte. Só te escolheram como burocrata por que você pediu pra ocupar esse espaço; há vários que estão sempre aqui e podem fazer o mesmo trabalho. Portanto, não invente essa "autoridade". Não sei o motivo pelo qual está tão nervoso, recomendo que tome um calmante. Como eu disse, e agora até coloquei na lista do grupo também, preciso dos nomes. Não está óbvio pra mim quem renovou ou não. Você é o primeiro a dizer que tudo é precipitado, então estou seguindo sua linha e aguardando até que os responsáveis pela renovação informem que a fizeram. Qual o problema nisso? Qual o desespero? Sem dramas, e se alguém está levando algo pro lado pessoal é somente você, que está aí distribuindo ataques. Realmente, a flag de bureaucrat é vital para que os voluntários realizem atividades de outreach no "mundo físico". Você não está em posição, nem é capacitado pra recomendar calmante a ninguém e a falácia de comentar sobre a pessoa não funciona comigo. Só tentei consertar o que fizeram, pois ficou feio. Mas entendo que não queiram desfazer o erro. Tudo será feito na hora certa, mas seria menos vexatório se tivessem feito agora. Deixa pra lá. Olá Teles, eu realmente nao entendo o que está acontecendo com esse grupo e o que passa na cabeça de vocês. Ajudei a fundá-lo e a defende-lo e em seguida fui limado sem qualquer processo definido ou transparencia. Não há lista oficial de membros nem processo de afiliação/desafiliação o que é um erro gritante. Se não bastasse isso, agora estão cortando na própria carne com todos esses problemas com o @lestaty e Lugusto tirando do movimento colaboradores importantes com tantas picuinhas e total falta de transparência. Os questionamentos e ações aqui apontados e discutidos não são somente legítimos como também necessários. O AffCom mudou as regras no meio do jogo, mas mesmo assim o que vale é o que está assinado com a WMF e as boas práticas do movimento Wikimedia. Segundo o User Group Agreement cabe aos responsáveis pelo grupo submit a written activity report in English to the community each year; isso é reforçado no item 3.Your Obligations. You and your User Group must: item d.submit, as instructed by WMF, an annual written activity report in English to the Wikimedia community and WMF; logo, do ponto de vista do acordo assinado e informações publicadas pelo proprio AffCom, o grupo realmente deixou de existir e ninguem se mexeu para resolver essa questão em tempo habil, o que caracteriza falta de interesse e de atividades que justifiquem renovação. Quando iniciei a organização do WLE 2014 ja foi pensando em atividades e resultados para justificar a renovaçãao do grupo, que logo em seguida foi contra a realização do concurso e acabei tendo que tocar grande pare do trabalho via programa catalisador(ou seja, tiraram um excelente projeto da paua do grupo). O AffCom disse que aceita isso, que nao precisam justificar atividades e que está ok, mas os membros que endossaram e viabilizaram a proposta possuem questionamentos. Então, CADÊ O AMARILDO??? Requests for comments on Wikimedia user groups approval process and agreements

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee is requesting comments on the approval process and agreements for Wikimedia user groups.

Wikimedia user groups are groups of Wikimedia users who support and promote the Wikimedia projects in the offline world by organizing meetups and other projects. The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee's responsibilities include approval of new Wikimedia user groups.

The committee will seek community input until Friday, May 1, 2015. The committee will then review the community's input, and publish the new process and agreements on Meta-Wiki. The committee will again seek community input approximately six months after any changes are adopted to gauge effectiveness and if any additional changes are necessary.

Pywikibot compat will no longer be supported - Please migrate to pywikibot core

Sorry for English, I hope someone translates this.
Pywikibot (then "Pywikipediabot") was started back in 2002. In 2007 a new branch (formerly known as "rewrite", now called "core") was started from scratch using the MediaWiki API. The developers of Pywikibot have decided to stop supporting the compat version of Pywikibot due to bad performance and architectural errors that make it hard to update, compared to core. If you are using pywikibot compat it is likely your code will break due to upcoming MediaWiki API changes (e.g. T101524). It is highly recommended you migrate to the core framework. There is a migration guide, and please contact us if you have any problem.

There is an upcoming MediaWiki API breaking change that compat will not be updated for. If your bot's name is in this list, your bot will most likely break.

HTTPS

Apologies for writing in English.

Hi everyone.

Over the last few years, the Wikimedia Foundation has been working towards enabling HTTPS by default for all users, including unregistered ones, for better privacy and security for both readers and editors. This has taken a long time, as there were different aspects to take into account. Our servers haven't been ready to handle it. The Wikimedia Foundation has had to balance sometimes conflicting goals.

Forced HTTPS has just been implemented on all Wikimedia projects. Some of you might already be aware of this, as a few Wikipedia language versions were converted to HTTPS last week and the then affected communities were notified.

Most of Wikimedia editors shouldn't be affected at all. If you edit as registered user, you've probably already had to log in through HTTPS. We'll keep an eye on this to make sure everything is working as it should. Do get in touch with us if you have any problems after this change or contact me if you have any other questions.

There is a proposal at the Commons Village Pump requesting feedback about the thumbnails of static GIF images: It states that static GIF files should have their thumbnails created in PNG. The advantages of PNG over GIF would be visible especially with GIF images using an alpha channel. (compare the thumbnails on the side)

Introducing the Wikimedia Affiliates mailing list

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee is pleased to introduce the launch of the Wikimedia Affiliates mailing list, which is basically a place for all the affiliates (chapters, thematic organizations, user groups) to discuss issues related to affiliates, make announcements to other affiliates, and collaborate on activities and community-wide events. The idea is to help facilitate the dialogue affiliates across our movement, plus collaborative discussions like community-wide activities, joint edit-a-thons, regional conferences, blog/report posts, or other communications from affiliates.

Each Wikimedia movement affiliate is allocated three spots on the mailing list. All affiliates may contact the Affiliations Committee to request additional spots if needed.

Mesmo que a maior parte deste processo será conduzida em inglês, convidaremos pessoas de todas as versões linguísticas das wikis da Wikimedia para que enviem propostas. Também convidaremos tradutores voluntários para ajudar-nos a traduzi-las para o inglês.

Sua proposta deve incluir: o problema a ser resolvido, quem seria beneficiado por ele e uma solução, caso saiba uma. Hello! Wikimania 2016 scholarships will soon be open; by the end of the week we'll form the committee and we need your help, see Scholarship committee for details.

If you want to carefully review nearly a thousand applications in January, you might be a perfect committee member. Otherwise, you can volunteer as "ambassador": you will observe all the committee activities, ensure that people from your language or project manage to apply for a scholarship, translate scholarship applications written in your language to English and so on. Ambassadors are allowed to ask for a scholarship, unlike committee members.

We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

2015 Affiliations Committee call for candidates

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

The Affiliations Committee – the committee responsible for guiding volunteers in establishing Wikimedia chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups – is looking for new members!

The main role of the Affiliations Committee is to guide groups of volunteers that are interested in forming Wikimedia affiliates. We review applications from new groups, answer questions and provide advice about the different Wikimedia affiliation models and processes, review affiliate bylaws for compliance with requirements and best practices, and advise the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees on issues connected to chapters, thematic organizations and Wikimedia user groups.

The committee consists of twelve members, six of whom are selected every twelve months for staggered two-year terms.

Key skills

Being a part of the Affiliations Committee requires communication with volunteers all over the world, negotiating skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to understand legal texts. We try to get a healthy mix of different skill sets in our members. The key skills and experience that we look for in candidates are:

• Excitement by the challenge of helping to empower groups of volunteers worldwide.
• Willingness to process applications through a set, perhaps bureaucratic process.
• Readiness to participate in political discussions on the role and future of affiliates, models of affiliations, and similar questions.
• Availability of up to 5 hours per week, and the time to participate in a monthly ~2 hour voice/video meeting.
• International orientation.
• Very good communication skills in English.
• Ability to work and communicate with other languages and cultures.
• Strong understanding of the structure and work of affiliates and the WMF.
• Knowledge of different legal systems and experience in community building and organising are a plus.
• Effective communication skills in other languages are a major plus.
• Experience with or in an active affiliate is a major plus.
• Willingness to use one's real name in committee activities (including contacts with current and potential affiliates) when appropriate.

We are looking for people who are not afraid of the workload and are motivated by helping other volunteers to get organized and form communities that further our mission around the world.

Selection process

As a reflection of our commitment to openness, transparency, and bilateral engagement with the Wikimedia community, the 2015 member selection process will include a public review and comment period. All applications received by the committee will be posted on Meta (at Affiliations Committee/Candidates/2015), and the community will be invited to provide comments and feedback about each candidate.

At the end of the public comment period, the applications will be voted on by the members of the committee who are not seeking re-election, taking into account comments put forward by the committee's members, advisors, WMF staff and board liaisons, and the community. A final decision will be made by mid-January 2016, with new members expected to join later that month.

How to apply

If you are interested in joining the committee, please send an application to affcom@lists.wikimedia.org by 31 December 2015. You will get a confirmation that your application was received.

Your application should include the following:

• Your full name
• Your contact information (including e-mail address and username)
• A statement describing your relevant experience, skills, and motivation for joining the committee.

Your statement will be published for community review and feedback, so please do not include any information that you are not comfortable sharing.

Get involved in Wikipedia 15!

As many of you know, January 15 is Wikipedia’s 15th Birthday!

People around the world are getting involved in the celebration and have started adding their events on Meta Page. While we are celebrating Wikipedia's birthday, we hope that all projects and affiliates will be able to utilize this celebration to raise awareness of our community's efforts.

Haven’t started planning? Don’t worry, there’s lots of ways to get involved. Here are some ideas:

• Join/host an event. We already have more than 80, and hope to have many more.
• Talk to local press. In the past 15 years, Wikipedia has accomplished extraordinary things. We’ve made a handy summary of milestones and encourage you to add your own. More resources, including a press release template and resources on working with the media, are also available.
• Design a Wikipedia 15 logo. In place of a single icon for Wikipedia 15, we’re making dozens. Add your own with something fun and representative of your community. Just use the visual guide so they share a common sensibility.
• Share a message on social media. Tell the world what Wikipedia means to you, and add #wikipedia15 to the post. We might re-tweet or share your message!

Everything is linked on the Wikipedia 15 Meta page. You’ll find a set of ten data visualization works that you can show at your events, and a list of all the Wikipedia 15 logos that community members have already designed.
