Main Theme: Building Free Knowledge Through Collaboration

Sub-themes: Outreach, Participation and Quality in Wikimedia projects

Dates: 18 and 25 November (Wednesday)

Location: Choperia at SESC Pompéia

Time: 19h30 to 21h30

19h45 - 20h15 - Opening Debate

20h15 - 21h15 - Unconference and Workshop

Description:

The event will begin with a brief introduction (15 minutes) on the agenda of the Unconference, the Wikimedia Foundation and the goals of its Strategic Planning. Printed material containing details about each topic will be distributed to all participants.

Then, two invited panelists will start a dialogue on the topic in question (Outreach, Participation, Quality), approaching for 30 minutes the main challenges and opportunities for Wikimedia and other initiatives related to collaborative construction of free knowledge. The purpose of this debate is to start the discussion, illustrating the most important issues perceived by the community inside and outside the Wikimedia projects. Supporters and opponents will be invited to participate in this dialogue, which can virtually be started even before the event date.

The last part of the meeting will take the form of an unconference, where any participant can set a specific topic to discuss in smaller groups with others (maximum 60 minutes). The space is divided into areas to accommodate several groups simultaneously. Each group will be self-organized and asked to sketch up a suggested strategy for Wikimedia. This proposal will be recorded in audio, video or written and then shared freely licensed on the Strategic Planning wiki.

The event will be over after a summary of the proposals discussed by the participants (15 minutes). Everyone will be invited to participate in the continued construction of those and other proposals on the wiki - in a virtual collaborative process, like Wikipedia and other Wikimedia Foundation projects.
